The ADR Office works to help investigators in the following ways:

  • Alert faculty about large proposal/center solicitations.
  • Conduct information sessions about major competitions.
  • Assist with the coordination of the proposal process.
  • Coordinate red team reviews.
  • Identify resources for graphic art and technical editing support.
  • Recommend methods of identifying funding opportunities.
  • Prompt faculty about limited competitions.
  • Partner with faculty in refining their funding strategies to increase the likelihood of success.
  • Conduct a variety of workshops including NSF CAREER awards and various Young Investigator Programs.

Types of Sponsors

Corporate Sponsors

The College of Engineering’s Office of Corporate Relations seeks to build collaborative partnerships between faculty and industry. This office works with faculty to enhance research programs through industry participation; identifying, facilitating, and negotiating industry funded research collaborations; and insuring that the legal and financial terms of industry funded research contracts are fair and conform to the principals and mission of the university.

Government Sponsors

The College of Engineering’s Office of Government Relations focuses on developing research opportunities for faculty and staff with state and federal agencies. The office provides information on upcoming research opportunities and helps educate faculty and staff on the needs and requirements of these programs. In addition, it promotes the College’s research agenda through interactions with key agency and legislative personnel.

Government Relations in the College of Engineering focuses on expanding and diversifying funding sources for faculty research and other CoE priorities.

Government Relations will:

  • Monitor federal priorities, policies and agency budgets to assist in advance planning for CoE funding opportunities.
  • Work with faculty and staff to understand their priorities and funding needs.
  • Monitor communication to encourage applications for important funding opportunities.
  • Assist in the coordination of large scale proposals (e.g., edit, organize review sessions, etc.).
  • Organize and conduct presentations to faculty about responding to particular funding opportunities.
  • Organize, plan, and host visits with federal, state, and local government representatives either on campus or at a designated site.
Foundation Sponsors

Foundation Relations in the College of Engineering works cooperatively with U-M Development staff to strengthen and expand foundation relationships leading to increased funding for faculty research and other CoE priorities.

Foundation Relations will:

  • Work with private foundations to understand their goals.
  • Work with faculty and staff to understand their priorities and funding needs.
  • Match foundation goals with research and activities in need of funding.
  • Assist with proposal development and submittal.
  • Organize and conduct presentations to faculty about working with foundations and responding to particular funding opportunities.
  • Organize, plan, and host visits to foundations and/or bring foundations to campus.
